But listen, I asked Arichie what their names mean: Tiankhulengi “they have no voice”, and Mwationa “you have seen us.” He said that often names are chosen to coincide with circumstances present around the time of the child’s birth. What was going on then, and why do their names have such relevance today? It made me stop for a minute, as I thought about these young girls and the work that I’m doing here.
